Compostable Tableware Now A Reality

The world we live in is a wasteful one. Around 10million plates and cups are thrown away in the US and UK every day, resulting in huge amounts of ?hardcore? landfill. It is likely that there will always be a demand for tableware as society is not going to change over night, but we may not have much to eat off of them if we continue to mistreat nature? Well an innovative company based in Richmond think they have the solution.

They have developed a complete range of biodegradable and compostable tableware that can be used in exactly the same way as ordinary products. They are completely safe and can also be cleaned properly. where they differ however is that they biodegrade over time and can be absorbed by micro-bacterias, fungus and plants.

Awards have already been given to the relatively new company, who have also received praise from green charities and their regional council. Their latest award came from a company that helps new, ethically motivated businesses find their feet. The company is called New Visions and run not-for-profit.

The new company was awarded $1,500 which they hope to invest in developing their range. plates, bowls and serving spoons are some of the 15 pieces currency in the range. They are looking into making more utensils such a bottle opener and more detailed pieces like designer cheese knives

Jocelyn Tice who is responsible for building the company from start has suggested that she would like nothing more than to see her innovative tableware in shops all over the globe. ?just think of the decrease it waste? she says. Waste production will be reduced dramatically, which will have the knock on effect of bringing down everyone’s costs.

Additional to her newest tableware concepts, Jocelyn is now researching products from various industry sectors with the hope of applying the technology there also. She has also been approached by a number of larger companies who are interested in incorporating her products into their own table and glassware
